Legal English or English for Legal Purposes (ELP), like other forms of English for Specific Purposes (ESP), has a large number of vocabularies that EFL learners need to acquire. In order they can develop their vocabularies, it is useful for them to learn collocations when they are learning their Legal English. Collocations, known as the combination of words that work together, are frequently found in Legal English. Without having enough mastery of legal English collocations, it is certainly difficult for the EFL learners to use their English skills in legal context such as presenting the case in the courtroom, reading or writing legal documents, and listening to the legal reports or news from radio or television. To cater their need for the acquisition of legal English collocations, it is necessary for the EFL teachers of Law Faulty in Jember University to use a certain approach called lexical approach for his or her teaching. With this approach, they are hopefully able to develop the acquisition of legal English collocations of the EFL learners. In the framework of the development of legal English collocation acquisition, this paper will answer the questions of what collocation is, why it is necessary for the EFL learners to learn collocations, what the lexical approach is, why it is necessary to use Lexical Approach to teach legal English collocations, which legal English collocations are to be taught, and how these legal English collocations can be developed or designed for teaching.
