This study was motivated by need for fulfilling current practices in learning English especially in speaking. The study was focused on the practices in spoken language with genre-based approach (GBA) especially in spoken cycle. The approach that has several stages; Building Knowledge of Field (BKoF), Modeling of Text (MoT), Joint Construction of Text (JCoT), and Independent Construction of Text (ICoT), was applied for helping to develop students’ spoken language ability. Especially in the joint construction of the text (JCoT) and independent construction of text (ICoT) the students were involved to do several activities to help them speak up in certain context related to the genre of instructing, especially in procedure text. The study is an action research study within two cycles. In each cycle, the students’ spoken language ability score improved than before.
