Isi artikelThis paper shows that how comic can help students of Junior High School understand the text types (genre). The subject of the research is the eighth grade students of SMP IPIEMS Surabaya, class A. This research is a classroom action research (CAR) and analyzed qualitatively. In this research, the researcher collaborated with a teacher and acted as an observer. There were 3 cycles applied in this research. The data were collected through observation, questionnaire, and assignments. After the data were analyzed, the result of the research in general were then formulated: (1) The students were very interested in reading comic because the pictures and the stories shown in comic were very interesting; (2) Comic can motivate the students to read; and (3) Comic is one of learning media which is very helpful for students to understand the English text types (genres).
