Abstract
The prevalence of hypertension in Indonesia tend to increase. Researchers have studied about hypertension risk factors. Coffee consumption is suspected to be one of the hypertension risk factors. However, the evidence is still uncertain. Therefore, meta-analyse and systematic review study about correlation between habitual coffee consumption and blood pressure is needed.
This is a meta-analysis and systematic review study. Literature search is conducted by using search engines (ProQuest, SpringerLink, Google Scholar, and PubMed) and keywords.
There were 17 articles that could be used in this study. An article could be used in meta-analyse study of correlation between habitual coffee consumption and blood pressure. Correlation (r) between habitual green coffee consumption and systolic blood pressure was - 0,374 while diastolic blood pressure was – 0,351. There were 4 articles that could be used in meta-analysis study of habitual coffee consuption with 2-3 cups / day for more than 2 weeks as a hypertension risk factor. Combined relative risk (RR) was 1,113. There were 3 articles that could be used in systematice review study about the effect of coffee on myocardial blood flow. Different stimulus could affectmyocardial blood flow. The systematic review study about the effect of coffee on brain cognitive function gave result that moderate dose caffeine (± 200-300 mg) on coffee could increase mood, auditory performance, memory, and alertness significantly while a person was doing abstinence of caffeine sustance. However, there were significant decreaseing on motoric and visual performance.
Insignificant negative correlation between habitual green coffee consumption and blood pressure is found. Habitual coffee consumption with 2-3 cups / day for more than 2 weeks is an insignificant hypertension risk factor. Moderate caffeine dose (± 200-300 mg) on coffee can decrease myocardial blod flow significantly while a person is being injected with ATP and dipyridamole and gaining stressful condition (exercise and hipoxia). However, there is unsignificant decreased of myocardial blood flow while a person is being injected with regadenoson and resting. Moderate caffeine dose (± 200-300 mg) on coffee can increase mood, auditory performance, memory, and alertness significantly. However, significant decreased can be seen in motoricandvisualperformance.
