Isi artikelIt has already been proved and supported in various ways that language learning is normally associated with some degree of anxiety which function both positively and negatively. However, it has been discussed that language tests are also the sources of anxiety which can function as a hindering factor and put substantial effects on the production behavior of the subjects. The goal of the present study was investigating and discussing the major sources of anxiety that are felt by proficiency (FCE) candidates. To this purpose, two types of instruments were used with 59 post intermediate EFL learners: a proficiency test and a questionnaire to tap the reasons and the sources of anxiety. After an analysis of the responses to the questions and some correlation analysis, two types of anxiety evoking sources could be identified: test-evoking and self-evoking source, both of which were recognized to be responsible for the subject’s anxiety. Moreover, the relationship between the proficiency level of the subjects and the degree of anxiety was significant. Finally some suggestions were proposed to lower down and control the subjects’ anxiety.
