Isi artikelNowadays, character education has become a hot issue in Indonesia and is considered to be one of the crucial programs of the government to be carried out soon. This is due to the fact that the character of the Indonesian people in general is totally changing beyond the government’s expectation in which they show their brutality or anarchism in solving the problem. They are easily offended that cause them to brutally fight each other without reasons, to destroy one’s’ belongings, to be non-humanistic killing people either using suicide bombing or shooting, mocking or disrespecting others etc. This kind of people’s behavior, of course, affects the students’ way of life. They tend to imitate what has been done by their seniors in the society through their own ways such as forming gangs for fighting, be against the traffic rules or school regulations or even they take drugs or do free sex etc. This moral decadency has become a national problem that needs a serious attention and actions to get the solution in order not to destroy the future of our nation. This paper, therefore, attempts to contribute an idea of solving the moral problem through creating English teaching material designed under the basis of character education. This character based teaching material covers moral values or components of the character education such as politeness, discipline, asking for apology etc. Hopefully, by learning English using this material, the students will not only master the language but also apply the moral values in their real life.
