Isi artikel
Syllabus development should be an ongoing endeavor if quality is what we aim at. This study focuses on developing the syllabus of a course named ELT across Curriculum for the betterment of the course. The development is carried out on four aspects of the syllabus, i.e. objective, course content (teaching materials), teaching method, and method of assessment and organizing assignments. Some methods of data collection are employed: teaching journal, document analysis, notes on in-and-out of class informal conference with students. Students are involved in the syllabus development by asking them to write End-of-Course Reflection. Data analysis is done throughout the study but it becomes intensive when all data are in. The study shows that the objective of the course should be revised to make it attainable, cooperative learning is perceived positively by the students both as course content and teaching method. The students also see that the use of portfolio both as a method of assessment and organizing assignments promote involvement in their learning, which results in satisfying academic achievement. The inclusion of cooperative learning and portfolio in the proposed syllabus requires commitment on both parties: lecturer and students.
