Isi artikelObjectives: to review the written case examination forms of the 4th year medical students of University of Indonesia during their pediatric rotation, in the academic year of 2006 - 2007. Design: A cross-sectional study to review the written case examinations performed by medical students in year four of University ofIndonesia during their pediatric rotation. Subjects: All 4th year medical students in the academic year of 2006-2007 assigned to 3 groups of rotation (group C, D and E) were possible candidates whose written case examination forms would be reviewed. Twenty subjects from each group would be pure-randomly sampled to have their examination forms reviewed. Results: Fifty eight examination forms were collected to be reviewed. Twenty six students took good history, 31 students recorded complete physical exam data, and 32 students had appropriate differential diagnoses with regard to anamnesis and physical exam. Majority of students (± 85%) requested laboratory work-ups as needed. About 80% of students planned proper medical treatment in term of their cases. However, only 16 students among 18 who wrote good anamnesis and also did thorough physical exam, had proper working diagnosis. Conclusion: This study showed that the skill of students in making medical status of pediatric patients were not yet satisfied, as they were still not able to record complete and related history of illness. The physical exams were not done comprehensively as well. Such ability to perform good anamnesis and complete physical exam is stated in the new curriculum of the year 2005.
