Background: The treatment of vitiligo remains a challenge. Objective: To report our results and experience with narrow-band ultraviolet B (NB-UVB) phototherapy for vitiligo. Methods: This is a descriptive retrospective study. Subjects are screened from January until December 2005 in Department of Dermatovenereology, Sardjito Hospital Yogyakarta; seven cases of vitiligo treated with NB-UVB phototherapy are described. Results and Conclusion: The percentage of repigmentation is evaluated by comparing photographs taken before and after the NB-UVB phototherapy, and shows a repigmentation level less than 25% in five patients; between 26% - 50% in one patient, and higher than> 75% in one patient. Adverse events are limited and transient. Narrow-band UVB therapy is an effective treatment for vitiligo. The use of NB-UVB therapy for minimal 30 times (1 cycle) does not show maximal response for vitiligo patients at Sardjito hospital Yogyakarta. The difference rate of response interindividual could be caused by anatomical location of lesions. The difference response of this study with previous studies, may be affected by difference of treatment procedure. For knowing better treatment response, it is needed prospective study.
