Isi artikelBackground: First voiding of morning urine protein creatinine ratio on a single voided urine sample correlate well with 24 hour urine collections and can be used to detect and monitor proteinuria in children with nephrotic syndrome. Objective: Aim of this study to determine whether the random urine samples can be used to measure spot urine protein creatinine ratio in children with nephrotic syndrome. Methods: Forty nephrotic syndrome children aged 1-16 years admitted to the Department of Pediatric. Dr Sardjito hospital are included in this study. Urine samples from three different times are collected: first voiding of morning urine. noon voiding and night voiding. The three samples are analyzed for spot urine protein level, spot urine creatinine level and spot urine protein creatinine ratio. These protein creatinine ratio are compared and correlation is calculated. Results and Conclusion: There is no significant difference of morning, noon and night spot urine protein creatinine ratio (p>0.05). And the correlation of protein creatinine ratio between the three samples is significantly high (r=0.95, 0.93 and 0.97, p<0.01). For quantifying proteinuria. there is convincing evidence that the random urine samples can be used to predict the level of protein excretion as measured in a 24-hour sample.
