Background: Obesity is a global epidemiology problem and a serious threat to health, because it increases morbidity and mortality rate. Obesity can be measured by adipose tissue distribution, that is central or peripheral obesity. Central obesity also named as abdominal or visceral obesity. Visceral obesity for Asian is defined if abdominal circumference e"90 cm for men and e"80 cm for women. Visfatin is an inflammation cytokine that its level increase during visceral obesity development. Objectives: the objective of this study is to know the difference of visfatin level between person with visceral obesity and without visceral obesity. Methods: This study is a cross sectional study. The subjects are enrolled from Employee polyclinic Dr.Sardjito Hospital Yogyakarta. The inclusion criteria are age 30-60 years old and signing informed consent. The exclusion criteria are using steroid, infection, autoimmune disease, malignancy and diabetes mellitus. Subject divided into two groups, that is visceral obesity and non visceral obesity group. Visfatin level in two groups are measured and mean difference of visfatin level between two groups is analyzed. Result and Conclusion: There are 39 subjects consist of 20 person with visceral obesity and 19 person non visceral obesity. Mean of visfatin level in visceral obesity group is higher than non visceral obesity and it has statistically significance (49.78±16.41 ng/mL and 33.89±17.92 ng/mL; p=0.003). Therefore, it can be concluded that visfatin level significantly higher in visceral obesity compared with non visceral obesity.
