DLBS 1425, a standardized extract of flesh fruit of Phaleria macrocarpa is hypothesized to have anti-cancer activities. Antiproliferative effect and DNA fragmentation conferred by DLBS 1 425 on various cancer cells, HGS, HCT116, PC3, HepG2 cells, were investigated. Cell proliferation was measured by colorimetric method to determine the number of viable cells. The result shows that there was an inhibition in proliferation in various cancer cell lines after treated with the DLBS 1425. Induction of apoptosis was also observed showing by DNA fragmentation and Bcl-2 expression in these cancer cells. These findings support DLBS 1425 as a prevention or treatment for several cancer diseases.
