To get a good of water for culturing, is necessary to apply technical refreshing of water, an other thing is to use biofilter recirculation. The main purpose of this application is to get alternative technology which is easy and simple to manage by small scale fish farmer, to collect information about the effectiveness of the biofilter recirculation technique to the growth rate and the production of pangasius. The rearing was carried out from July to August 2006 at Balai Budi Daya Air Tawar " Mandiangin,South Kalimantan. In the implementation, Pangasius fry range 1-1,5 em average weight0.037 gram/individual. Biofilter container dimension 280x80x60 cm.Fingerling container dimension 200x80x40 em, and recirculation rack dimension 160x90x190 em made of ulin wood. Fish stock density of the Pangasius fries was 5,000 (10,000 individuals/840 liter of water) with water surface 25 em. Feeding amount was 10% body weight rate at the third and fourth sampling. Feeding was 5 times per day. Some results of the trials indicated that water quality was still under threshold limit that what suitable for fish life. Individual relative growth ranged 50-54%, standard length become 3.33-3.78 em. Mortality lessthan 5% and feed conversion ratios (FCR) 0.45-3.46. Generally, applicationof biofilter recirculation technique can maintain survival rate and reduces feed conversion for pangasius.
