Abstract
In recent years, technology in the automotive field demands new technological developments, one of them is inevitably to have high level of safety, especially in the car industry. The use of light weight material with high level of crashworthiness are the right solution to these problems. In this era, Dual Phase Steel as seed material in the automotive field towards the use of car body. In addition to having the strength and high formability are the reason to use Dual Phase Steel. Dual Phase Steel also has properties of high crashworthiness, because it consists of two phases with different mechanical properties. Developments in the material also demands capabilities in manufacturing, including welding process which is one of the processes in car assembly and commonly applied. Spot welding and arc welding is the most common welding processes that applied in the process of connecting the car body. However, both in construction and in the automotive, corrosion is one of the problems that often encountered, especially in weld joint area. it’s because weld joint area is an area with ununiform microstructure due to heating, and there may be porosity because of incomplete welding process. Therefore, it is a high potencial area that corrosion formation. Corrosion phenomena both in spot welding and arc welding appear different, but both have a very low corrosion resistance.
