Abstract
Food addiction has neurobiological and behavioral similarities to substance
dependence. The high content of salt, sugar, and fat in a food addiction potentially
as contributing cause overeating and obesity.
Yale Food Addiction Scale used for the diagnosis of food addiction. This
literature study aims to discover the relationship between food addiction and obesity.
Food addiction is positively related to obesity through reduced reward
response and activation of reward circuitry. Sugar, salt, and fat addiction are
positively associated with obesity. The prevalence of food addiction as higher as in
individuals with obesity. The new theory about addiction is feed forward mechanism
also allegedly involved in food addiction. Further exploring food addiction construct
to a better clinical understanding, especially treating food addiction related to
obesity.
