Indonesia is a tropical country with a very large biodiversity. It is the world's second largest after Brazil. With 30,000 species of plants including 80% crops of the world and 90% of plants in Asia, Indonesia is the 1st in the field of research materials for herbal medicines. According to Dalimartha, author of several books on medicinal plants of Indonesia. the country is rich in medicinal plants. Almost all the regions and islands have medicinal plants which have proven efficacy hereditary. Herbal medicines have a very big opportunity in the formal treatment, and are also able to play a role in improving the nation’s economy. Placing humans as subjects of research (clinical research) needs to be taken seriously if one wants to put herbal medicine in the formal treatment of Indonesian medicines Declaration of a national fitofarmaka decade could be a trigger to all parties (researchers, companies, academics, clinicians) to be more concerned about pursuing fitofarmaka clinical research. The result is that the era of national fitofarmaka is able to be competitive at an international level.
