Isi artikel
According to Andrew Crisell, in this useful introduction to television studies, approaches to the medium can be divided into three parts – historical context, contemporary content and broad social impacts. He delivers a succinct, lucidly written analysis along these lines that, in a very welcome fashion, barely acknowledges ‘interactivity’ and thankfully ignores technicist blandishments about ‘mobile content’, ‘new platforms’ and the rest of the current shibboleths. Instead, he does exactly what he says he will do – focus on the ‘box’ of mainstream television where, for a vast majority, television still resides. His account is well organized into bite-sized chapters, some of which are further broken down by cross-heads.
