Isi artikelThe starting point of Modern Political Communication is that social, political, economic and technological developments brought about by second modernity have profoundly transformed the nature of political communication systems. Electioneering is now heavily driven by research data, governing is greatly influenced by promotional strategies and strategists, and the news media are deeply fragmented and focused on ‘pleasing the consumer’ more than on ‘informing the citizen’. Unlike many in the field, Stanyer does not assume that these changes need be bad for democratic politics in terms of either ‘packaging politics’ or ‘dumbing down’.
