Isi artikelFor some time the paradigm of mass communication has been found both wanting and misleading in the sense of misdirecting much of the effort of theory and research. It has also proved very resilient, perhaps because of its simplicity and its broad appeal both to those, such as big media producers, advertisers and propagandists, who would like it to work, and to critics who see it as embodying a form of society (centralized, oppressive, manipulative) that needs to be opposed and dismantled.
