Isi artikelTara Brabazon’s project in this book is to use various topics arising from popular culture and the media as a means of confrontation, intervention, challenge and change. There are many targets in the book, including the fields in which she writes. Media and cultural studies have for her become distracted by theory and theoretical preoccupations to the detriment of what is being studied and the objective of a popular culture that better serves us and the society in which it is set, whether through cultural analysis or cultural production. Popular culture that matters for Brabazon is that which subverts orthodoxies, questions the status quo, agitates against the powerful, exposes lies and probes the assumptions underlying war, religion, whiteness, masculinity and progress.
