Isi artikelJust over 20 years ago, as Rupert Murdoch was arranging for the abolition of Fleet Street, and when I was working in daily newspaper journalism in the UK, a colleague collected some accolade or other at one of those largely self-congratulatory award events one evening, and was promptly made redundant the following day. A tragedy for the individual, disturbing for the rest of us in the newsroom, perhaps a little paradoxical, but as far as I am aware, none of the people, who in their hundreds of thousands bought the newspapers in which his journalism appeared was moved to offer up any protest. Journalists come and go, and I know of only one display of public support – when Bill Kovach was forced out as editor of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution
