Breast milk is the main and first food for infant. Because breast milk contains all the essential nutrients that required for infant's growth and contains antibodies for the infant's immune. Exclusive breastfeeding is the one way to obtain a good infant growth. However, mothers often did not breast feed exclusively to their baby caused by various factors. The objective of this study was to find out the factors which affecting exclusive breastfeeding in infants aged six to twenty four months in the Maro Village of District Merauke in 2014. This study used a cross-sectional study design. Sampling was collected in the entire health centre in the Maro Village and obtained 100 mothers, who have six to twenty four months children in Maro Village of the Merauke District. This research was conducted in July to August 2014. The data was collected by interviewing using questionnaire, then analyzed by using chi square test. The result of the study showed that, there was significant correlation between exclusive breastfeeding with maternal employment (p=0.034), maternal knowledge (p=0.020), antenatal care history (p=0.000), economic status of the family (p=0.039), husband support (p=0.000), health provider support (p=0.040), exposured of breastfeeding information (p=0.014). The conclusion of this study has shown that the maternal factors (maternal employment, knowledge), the health care factors (antenatal care history) and supporting factors (economic status of the family, husband support, health provider support, exposured of breastfeeding information) affected exclusive breastfeeding. |
