Background: For medical students, especially in Indonesia, a scientific paper has to be made as a mandatory requirement to get a bachelor degree in medicine. The process its self was known to cause changes in stress level on the student. Purpose: The purpose of this research is to see how the level of stress changes while creating a scientific paper and its determining factors. Methods: This cross sectional research was done on students Batch 2011 Faculty of Medicine from Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia that was on the process of making a scientific paper or has finished doing one.Instruments used on this research were demographic questioners, Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS), and Family Adaptability and Cohesion Evaluation Scale IV (FACES IV). Consecutive sampling was used in collecting all the data needed and were analyzed descriptively (univariate). Result: From 171 respondents in total, the research show 66 (38.59%) respondents were categorized as stressed; 2.92% were extremely severe, 8.77% severe, 12.28% moderate, and 14.62% mild stressed. The determining factors that cause stress in the process of making a scientific paper were tight everyday learning schedule (77.19%), low motivation to complete the papers (22.22%), difficulties in finding the right research instruments, title, and samples(49.12%), long waited feedback from the tutor (35.09%),and difficulties in agreeing on a certain tutoring time for a clinician that also serves as a tutor (43.86%). Conclusion: The students that is about to make a scientific paper needs a solid motivation and a better preparation so that they can prevent the amount of stress that they are about to face |
