Background As the number of elderly in the world population continues to increase, the more problems experienced by the elderly that affects many aspects of life. Sarcopenia is a serious problem that can be experienced by all elderly and can cause a decrease in various aspects of life, one of which is the quality of life. By knowing the most affected quality of life’s aspect, it is expected that the treatment given in the future could be more focused and effective so it could improve elderly quality of life. Method This study is a descriptive analytic cross-sectional study and to measure quality of life using WHOQOL - Bref. Bio Impedance Analysis Examination, hand-grip, timed get-up-and-go test was conducted on 138 elderly respondents aged = 60 years to diagnose sarcopenia. Respondents were selected randomly from senior cares located in North Jakarta and West Jakarta. The analysis includes the effect of sarcopenia on the quality of life of physical examination and questionnaire. Analysis was performed using program IBM SPSS ver.20.0 and One - way ANOVA test. Results The test results showed a significant effect of sarcopenia on various variables, namely gender (p = 0.012), physical health domain (p = 0.029) and environmental domain (p = 0.040 ; 0.045). The test results showed no significant effect of sarcopenia on the domains of psychological and social relationships domains. Conclusion Sarcopenia occurs more frequently in women and lead to reduced quality of life, especially in terms of physical health and the environment of the patient. |
