Background: In year 2006, Indonesia was starting a new model of curriculum called Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) which using a standard competency. Indonesia was developed their own standard of competencies by Indonesian Medical Council (SKDI) that consist of list of competency which should be mastered by graduate. Undergraduate skills training was done in Skills Lab which a student could learn a skills with safe, repeated several times, and controllable. However, the situation are different with clerkship that usually lack of opportunity and supervision. Therefore, clinical education needs to be evaluated and improved in order to reach competency at the end of the study. Purpose: The aim of this study is to evaluate clinical skills competency at clerkship level based on standard competency of Indonesian Medical Council. Method: Random survey to 180 clerkship students in the 4 clinical departments; Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Surgery, and ENT department. It explores student perception about their competency based on SKDI, and followed by deep interview was done to 16 students. Result: According to the students, there are many skills in the SKDI that not adequately reached by the students, moreover there are several skills that never been meet during clerkship in the departments. Only few skills in the SKDI that students feel competent to perform. From the interview, students shows that they are agree that those kind of situations should be improved. Using skills lab for clerkship students can help them mastering several skills that rarely get during clerkship. Conclusion: Reaching competency cannot only rely on clerkship education in the hospital. Using laboratory setting as a partner with hospital practice is an alternative solutions for clerkship students reaching their competency on time.
