Background: Hypertension and osteoporosis are the most common disease in elderly. Seniors diagnosed with hypertension tend to have lower bone density caused by factors such as age, sex, nutritional status, physical activity, et cetera. Early diagnosis of osteoporosis in hypertension patient is crucial in elderly. Purpose: Identifying the relationship between hypertension and bone mass density in elderly. Method: The study use cross-sectional analysis taken from 59 elderly patients consist of 38 hypertension patients and 21 non-hypertension patients. Sample was taken using random purposive sampling in Angkasa Puri, Bekasi, Indonesia in December 2012. Data was taken using tensimeter and DXA test from the calcaneus. Data was analyzed using chi-square. Results: Based on measurement from 59 respondents, 64.4% have hypertension, 35.6% didn’t have hypertension with average age of 72 years old and 65 years old as the most common age. There is no statistically meaningful relationship between hypertension and bone mass density (p=0.05). Summary: There is no statistically meaningful relationship between hypertension and bone mass density in elderly living in Angkasa Puri, Bekasi, Indonesia. |
