Abstract
BACKGROUND
Aspergillus flavus (A. flavus) is an infectious agent of aspergillosis. Antifungal such as Amphotericin B and Itraconazole is reported have side effects.
Neem or Azadirachta indica contains terpenoids which have antifungal effects and minimal side effects. Research of neem as aspergilosis drug is
still limited.It stimulates the author to do a research in order to find out more about this .
METHOD
The study design was experimental in vitro. Neem leaves powder are obtained from Biochemistry Department, meanwhile A. flavus are obtained from Parasitology Department, School of medicine, Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia. The used methods were disc diffusion and macrodilution. Experimental groups were divided in three concentrations i.e 0.5 g/dL, 1.0 g/dL, and 2.0g/dL. Control groups were consist of drug control (ketokonazole 0.1 g/dL), = negative,
and positive control.Statistical analysis for disc diffusion used Kruskal Wallis test from software computer.
RESULT
Disc diffusion showed inhibition zone on concentration 2.0 g/dL. The three concentrations
of ethyl acetate neem leaves extract showed significant differences statistically (p=0.04). Macrodilution test showed antifungal effect on concentration 1.0 g/dL.
CONCLUSION
Ethyl acetate neem leaves extract have antifungal effects on A. flavus growth in vitro.
