Background: Indonesia is the third country with largest number of TB cases. Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a common health problem because of the economic improvement affecting the life style. The aims of this study was to asess TB suspect and DM and pre-DM as risk factor in flats of Muara Angke, North Jakarta in 2014. Method: The descriptive and cross sectioal study was carried out. 217 respondents were enrolled. It started with screening of TB based on TB symptoms. The suspected TB were then examined on Sputum for FAB and Thorax X-ray. The screening of DM based on Random Blood Glucose Test and DM symptoms was conducted. DM is defined if random blood glucose >200 mg/dL (two time test). Chi-square and logistic regression were used to determine the significancy and predictors of the risk factors of pre-DM. The risk factor of pre-DM were life style such as exercise, consumption of vegetables, genetic exposure and waist circumference,
Result: From 214 respondents 65,6% are women. Twelve TB suspects are found from the screening. However, none of the suspects was found as TB cases. From DM screening, there are 8 DM positive respondents (3.7%). The risk factors of indicated Pre-DM are age, BMI, and blood pressure (p<0.05). Conclusion: Pre-DM with its risk factors in TB endemic region needs more attention. Due to decreasing of imunity in DM, Tuberculosis would more spread out in the community. Although there is no TB positive, but the huge number of pre-DM in Muara Angke flats arise more concern. |
