Abstract
Background. There was a decrease in the age of menarche in Indonesia as much as 0,145 years per decade. One of the factors is BMI. Children with obesity will lead to more rapid age of menarche and have a negative impact for the future. Objective. To find out the relationship of BMI, maternal age of menarche, and maternal characteristics with age of menarche. Methods. The design of this study was cross sectional. The amount of this sample was 161, subject was chosen by non random sampling whole grade V until VIII. Nutritional status was measured by using a microtois and weight scales. Menarcheal age and maternal characteristics data were collected by quistionnaire. Data were analyzed by Spearman and Chi-Square. Result. From 161 children, 123 children (76.5%) had a normal BMI. The average age of menarche was 11.4 years and 86 children (53.4%) were categorized as early menarche. This study showed that there was no association between BMI of children (r=0.111;p=0.162) and maternal age of menarche (r=0.054;p=0.498) with age of menarche. There were no correlation differences between maternal education level (p=0.340) and family income (p=0.877) with age of menarche. Conclusions. There was no association between BMI and maternal age of menarche with age of menarche. There was no significant differences between maternal education level and family income with age of menarche.
