Liver is the most important organ in human and animal body, which one of its functions is to produce bile. If there is interference with the flow of bile, there will be symptoms of cholestasis. Seventy percent of cholestasis cases is extrahepatic cholestasis, which in turn will lead to histological changes in the liver tissue. These changes affect the substances secreted by the liver parenchyma, including albumin. The amount of albumin is an important prognostic indicator of heart disease. Objectives. The aim of this research is to determine the duration of hypoalbuminemia due to acute and chronic extrahepatic cholestatic and aware of the clinical symptoms. Methodology. The method of this research is in vivo experimental with cross sectional method. Twenty four eight-week-old-Sprague-Dawley rats were pair-fed and subjected to bile duct ligation (BDL) or sham surgery. After 7 days and 21 days, albumin were measured using Microlab 300. Results and Conclusions. BDL rats showed low level of albumin (p<0,05). After 21 days, albumin in control group were higher than BDL group. In the BDL group itself, the albumin level on the 7th day were 1,42 mg/dl higher than on the 21st day of observation. Suggestion.
