Background: According to WHO (2005), there were 15 millions preterm births every year. Indonesia, placed fifth among 184 countries with 675.000 preterm births every year. Based on Riskesdas (2007), the most common cause of perinatal death is respiratory distress accounted for 35,9%. The most common types of respiratory distress are Respiratory Distress Syndrome (RDS), sepsis, Transient Tachypnea of Newborn (TTN) and perinatal asphyxia. Methods: This is a descriptive retrospective study using medical record data. Neonates with history of preterm in Dr. Mintohardjo Naval Hospital between January 2011-January 2014 included in this study. Data collected include subject characteristics such as gestasional age, Apgar Score, birth weight, mode of delivery, sex and diagnosis of respiratory distress in preterm neonates born in Dr. Mintohardjo Naval Hospital. Result: There were 27 respiratory distress cases among 103 preterm births in January 2011-January 2014. The most common cause of respiratory distress was TTN with 9 cases (33,33%), followed by RDS and asphyxia with 7 cases each. Conclusion: TTN was the most common cause of respiratory distress in preterm neonates in Dr. Mintohardjo Naval Hospital, followed by RDS, asphyxia, sepsis and other disease. |
