Abstract
Background.
The cause of death in breast cancer is most often due to distand metastasis. The most common metastasis in breast cancer is bone metastasis. The availability of metastasic markers may be helpful for early detection of breast cancer spread. PDIA 4 is postulated to have a role in cancer metastasis and is here presented as a possible antimetastatic marker.
Objectives.
The aim of this study is to determine the relationship between serum PDIA 4 levels and breast cancer metastasis.
Methodology.
Serum samples are collected from 46 women with breast cancer: 23 metastatic and 23 non metastatic. ELISA is then used to measure PDIA 4 absorbance with ~=450nm. Analysis of results are done using the Mann-Whitney test and Spearman's Correlation test.
Result.
Statistical tests show that there is a significant difference between serum PDIA 4 levels of metastatic and non metastatic subjects (p=0.001) with a negative correlation (R=-0.482).
Conclusions.
A low serum PDIA 4 concentration is associated with increased risk of breast cancer metastasis.
