Objective: This research was conducted to analyze the role of self directed learning readiness on academic achievement and pattern of SDLR for the first year students of UNRI's medical school. Method: This was a survey that combined with a qualitative approach. The subject were 92 students of the first year of UNRI's medical school. Result: The result of description analysis showed that the student with high SDLR is 60%, student with moderate SDLR is 40% and none with low SDLR. The result of regression analysis indicate that there was relationship between and academic achievement (1'=7,359, r=0,275, p<0,05). SDLR can predict 7,6% variation of academic achievement (R2=0,076). Student with high SDLR had better desire to learn, self management and self control than student with moderate SDLR, therefore student with high SDLR could reach better academic achievement than student with moderate SDLR.
