Isi artikelBackground: Pre-clinical education is aimed to prepare undergraduate student before entering clinical rotation phase. Many studies showed that transition from pre-clinical to clinical rotation phase cause stress and anxieties for students. The GMU medical faculty has done some innovations by using PBL system and skill training program in Skills Lab to prepare students entering clerkship. Purpose: to understand the level of preparedness of fourth year medical student in medical knowledge, communication skill, physical examination skill, and procedural skill before entering clerkship and its relationship with their Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) score and General Point Average (GPA). Method: Fourth year medical student of GMU during Block 18 were surveyed about their level preparedness perception using questionnaire and then correlate with OSCE score and GPA. Result: Response rate is 75,6 %. Students feel unprepared in the area of medical knowledge (mean 2,61), physical examination skills (mean 2,91) and procedural skills sub-scale (mean 2,85) but they feel prepared in communication skill (mean 3,32). There are no significant correlations between OSCE score and GPA with level of preparedness but there is positive correlation between OSCE score and GPA. Conclusion: Students have personal view about their level of preparedness before entering clerkship and it can not be predicted by OSCE score and Grade Point Average. Medical institutions should always innovate and evaluate their education system to reach the optimal result.
