Abstract
The elderly have a great possibility to experience health problems associated with the process of degeneration that keeps increasing. Infectious disease is one of the health problems in the elderly often encountered. Selection and use of antibiotics in the elderly should be made with careful consideration. The ratio of risks and benefits in the use of antibiotics in elderly must take into account as well as the principles of the drug use in general. The benefits must be greater than risks received. Another important thing is to realize that the elderly who require antibiotics may have special conditions such as other medications that can cause drug interactions, liver or renal disorders (organs that metabolize or excrete the drugs), or albumin disorders that can affect drug distribution.
