Isi artikelSynthesis of 3.4-dimethoxyphenyl-2-propanone from methyleugenol has been achieved through conversion of allyl group to secondary alcohol, followed by oxidation with CrO3 and Pyridine Chlorochromate (PCC). The oxymercuration-demercuration reaction of methyleugenol with Hg(II)OAc-NaBH4 yields methyleugenyl alcohol (65,56%). The oxidation of methyleugenyl alcohol with CrO3 yields 3,4-dimethoxphenyl-2-propanone (25,34%) and with PCC yields 3,4-dimethoxyphenyl-2-propanone (98,69%). The oxidation products of methyleugenyl alcohol were analyzed using GLC. The elucidation structure of these products was analyzed using FTIR, ¹H-NMR, 13C-NMR, and MS.
