EDITOR'S NOTE: B. F Skinner's work was influential beyond psychology in many facets of Americar. society his writings and empirical studies directly addressed issues in, for example, education, social policy, and the quality of life. In other areas, the indirect impact of his work can be found in its application in a variety of disciplines by scientists and practitioners persuaded by his ideas, One example of the lattre is the United States' space exploration program. In the following historical commentary, Rohles's observations illustrate Skinner's indirect influence on this national priority of the 1960s and 1970s.
