Isi artikelThe teaching of mathematics has gone through several changes since in 1967. Et that time "new math" was in, the huge desktop calculator that had a few mathematical functions was a revolutionary tool, and the idea of using the computer to teach mathematics existed in the minds of progressive educators and was being implemented in just a few experimental environments. Then came the microcomputer revolution. During the 1980s over two million microcopmputers made their way into America's classrooms, and virtually 100 percent of the nation's schools now own some computers (Kinnaman, 1990). Secondary mathematics teachers have been using computers for instructional purposes for several years, but in many cases classroom teachers have not had the opportunity to evaluate the effectiveness of computers in improving students' learning. This article, by summarizing the major reviews of research done since 1975, provides secondary mathematics teachers with information on the effectiveness of computer use in teaching secondary mathematics.
