Abstract
In this globalization era, multinational company often to expand their business across their national boundaries and enter a new market as their international strategy to develop their business. South Korea as an advanced country in retail division expanded their business by done a direct investment in the form of shopping mall in Indonesia. Through some negotiation and cooperation with Ciputra Group Indonesia, Lotte Group now organize and manage a shopping mall named Lotte Shopping Avenue in the complex of Ciputra World Jakarta. • This research provides an understanding about direct investment advantageous in the emerging market like Indonesia, based on what becomes the purpose of the investment in the beginning. Writer wants to analyze the background of Lotte Group investment in Indonesia and what becomes their target in Indonesia. Besides the reason of the investment, writer also want to know if this investment is actually beneficial or not for Lotte Group. This research is using qualitative descriptive method and only focus on the case study. Writer collect the data and information through in-depth interview with the representative of Lotte Group and also from the document that is provide directly from Lotte Group in South Korea. The writer found out that Lotte Group done a direct investment in Indonesia, because they targeting Indonesia market, because Indonesia population is become the key point in their retail business, by organize a shopping mall with a department store inside rather than just opening a department store, which was their first idea at the beginning before doing a market research. This research is also provide the problems during the investment decision and also how the problems are solved.
