Today, there are about 25.000 HIV/AIDS cases in Bangladesh . Commercial sex workers (CSWs), numbering around 100.000 in the country, are potential agents of heterosexual HIV transmission. CSWs are themselves highly vulnerable to HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs). With that background, the Family Planning Association of Bangladesh (FPAB) carried out a comprehensive study on HIV/AIDS/STI knowledge of CSWs. This was conducted in one of the biggest brothels in Daulatdia Gaolanda in mid-2003.
