Abstract
Background: Some researches which have been done in Indonesia show that Indonesia has some racial elements that cause population variation. The strongest elements are Australomelanesoid and Mongoloid. Australomelanesoid were the initial inhabitant in Indonesia who scattered from western to eastern Indonesia. The wave of migration from Asia main land brought Mongoloid population into Indonesia. The Mongoloid were the second racial element that later mixed and dominated the Australomelanesoid.
Objective: The aim of this study is an attempt to identify the morphotype in Indonesia based on the measurements on the face and the head.
Material andMethod:We have taken 64 living population in Indonesia. The measurements were eu-eu, g-op, n-gn, go-go, n-sn and al-al.We have used the approximation method after Wanke to analyze the indices.
Results and Conclusion: The present research has shown that there are three morphotypes in Indonesia. These are Protomalayid (Australomelanesoid), Deuteromalayid (Mongoloid) and Dayakid. Protomalayid dominated eastern Indonesia.Deuteromalayid dominated almost the whole Indonesia. Dayakid developed their characteristic and dominated Kalimantan Island.
