We examined three entailments associated with Dweck and Leggett's (1988) social cognitive model of motivation which postulates relationships among implicit beliefs about intelligence, goal orientations, and response to challenge. Partial support was found for entailment 1 (beliefs about intelligence are related to goals) and entailment 2 (goals are related to behavioral responses), but not entailment 3 (beliefs about intelligence are related to behavioral responses). These findings supported Dweck and Leggett's basic assumptions.
