Abstract
Many factors influence the failure of a machine element, one of the cause is a decrease in the strength properties of the material. Strength is the nature of every material. One of the factors that influence the decrease in the mechanical properties of the material is corrosion, which is one of the problems encountered in the industrial world. To determine the effect of corrosion time on the mechanical properties of the material the salt spray test is used for the same material, which is steel DIN ST 41. It will be tested to determine the mechanical properties of the material with a tensile test , impact test and hardness test . The results obtained from the salt spray test by using standard ASTM B 117-97, conducted for three days showed a reduction in the mass and showed a decrease in toughness and hardness properties. The results of tensile testing did not decrease the strength and ductility of steel materials DIN ST 41 , which happens due to no thickness reduction during salt spray test. Results of tests on the mechanical properties due to corrosion time showed a decrease in the mechanical properties of steel DIN ST 41 materials.
