Urinary tract infection is one of the most common infection occur in children following respiratory tract infection. Predisposing factors of urinary tract infection in infants and children are urinary tract obstruction, anatomical congenital abnormalities, foreign body in the urinary tract, vesico-ureter reflux, and intrarenal reflux. Like in the older children, urinary tract infection in infants mostly caused by Escherichia coli. The bacteria in the urine usually are from renal, pyelum, ureter, bladder, and urethra. The bacteria usually multiply from feces that spread ascending, and from the usage of disposable diaper, which isn’t changed in a very long period. The use of disposable diaper in quite a long time causes the periurethral area to become humid and makes it a perfect habitat for bacteria to grow. Some studies show that there is an association between the frequency of disposable diaper changing and urinary tract infection in children. More frequent changing of disposable diaper lessens the risk of urinary tract infection in children. |
