Prevalence of behavioral problems in children with developmental disabilities ranges from 5% to 40%. Applied behavior analysis often contributes substantively to the diagnosis and treatment of these problems. This approach focuses on the environmental influences on behavior and interventions most likely to induce behavior change. Behavior management techniques include positive reinforcement, negative reinforcement, and punishment. This article discusses diagnosing behavior problems and methods of instituting and monitoring behavior management techniques.
