Isi artikel
Traumatic brain injury is the most common cause of acquired disability in childhood. Depending on the severity, type, and location of injury, outcome in survivors may range from complete recovery in most children with mild injuries to severe disability in children with more serious injuries. Motor, communicative, cognitive, sensory, behavioral, and emotional deficits may result, with significant implications for the child’s ongoing development. Optimal acute management is directed toward limiting secondary brain injury. Subsequently, the goal of rehabilitation is to optimize function in those areas that are affected. Most head injuries in children should be preventable.
