Abstract
Background : Sarang Semut plant has been published as a supplement of antioxidants and are consumed for the treatment of various diseases by a large number of Indonesian society expecialy in Papua. Sarang semut reported to contain a number of phenols, tocopherols and some minerals. MDA is marker of oxidative stress. The aim this pre-study is to evaluate the effect of various amounts sarang semut to the MDA plasma. Method : Sprague-Dawley male rats weighing 200+/-20 g were randomly assigned into four experimental groups (n=6 rats in each group). The groups were the aqua (control), 7 mg/day of sarang semut (SS7), 14 mg/day of sarang semut (SS14) and 21mg/day of sarang semut (SS21) groups. Sarang semut in this study is that is widely used by the public. After 28 days, blood were taken. Wills’methods were employed to determine the parameters of oxidative stress. The statistical was analyzed by one way anova. Result : There are no significant results in the group that intervention with sarang semut plant but there’s a tendency to decrease MDA level (p>0.05). Conclusion : The amount of sarang semut has not affected to MDA plasma.
