Isi artikel
I have taught ESL in South Africa and in the USA to both children and adults. Without doubt, the most rewarding aspect of this teaching experience has been receiving letters from my students. As part of the writing component of the ESL programs I teach, I get my students to write letters to me. These are not letters to someone else for me to read or grade. They are actually addressed to me. In this article I discuss how I use this communicative activity in my classes. I also offer guidelines to teachers who would like to include this form of letter- writing in their writing classes. Finally, I present a few examples of the letters that my high school students have written to me over the years.
