Internationally, we find the world becoming less and less bound by borders. It has become a global village, where encounters with people from different cultural backgrounds are more and more unavoidable. Globalization opens a wide opportunity for international cooperation and among rather diverse people. This cross-cultural working forces people to develop cultural self awareness and tolerance of ambiguity in dealing with cultural differences. As each culture develops its own pattern of thinking, value systems and norms, people tend to rely on their own standard to judge other people's behaviors. Culture as an orientation program (Thomas, 2003) determines behavior appropriate to one's culture; categorizing it to be normal or abnormal, ethic al or unethical, proper or improper. |
