Abstract
PT. Akebono Brake Astra Indonesia is one of the manufacturing company engaged in the brake system like brake disc and drum brake for the car, while the master cylinder and brake discs for motorcycles. Target percentage of defective products to be achieved by the company amounted to 0,05%. It is necessary to improve the quality of the product better by reducing the number of defects that exist by using the six sigma method. This method uses several stages, ie define, measure, analyze, improve and control. Stage define choose shoe assy production lines with the largest percentage of disability is 0.01875%. Type D40D selected for further study because it has the largest percentage of disability is equal to 0.274%. In the next stage, there are three characters the quality of the obtained Pareto diagram based on the position of the welding material slips, caught in roll forming, and pinched conveyor. In the measure phase measured initial process capability of 99.812%, the value of 274 DPMO and sigma level of 4.955. Analyze phase to determine potential failure modes that affect the use of Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA). Potential causes of failure is that having an influential largest RPN value for each character quality that is not a regular schedule for maintenance jig, the distance between the welding machine with conveyor and conveyor distance between the walls, no stopper on the jig. The cause of this problem is fixed in improv stage, improvements were made for all possible countermeasures to give more attention to the potential failure modes of influence around for two weeks. After the repair is carried back calculation of process capability, DPMO, and sigma level. Phase Control will be conducted by the company after the implementation is done. Results of the implementation of improvements result of increased process capability at 0.042% to be 99.839%, declining by 113 so that the DPMO to 161, and increased by 14.2% sigma level so that it becomes as big as 5,097
